Mathematics 16 Online
OpenStudy (ladylauren):

will someone plz help me work through this

OpenStudy (ladylauren):

2(2r+8)=3r+16

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Distribute the 2 first. Remember the distributive property? a(b + c) = ab + ac

OpenStudy (ladylauren):

so it would be 4r+16=3r+16

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Correct! Now subtract 3r on both sides. :)

OpenStudy (ladylauren):

1r+16=r+16

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Remember, on the right side 3r - 3r = 0 You have three apples and you give the three away. How many do you have? 0 We subtracte by 3r because we wanted to get r all on one side 4r+16=3r+16 4r - 3r + 16 = 3r - 3r + 16 4r - 3r + 16 = 16 And what is 4r - 3r?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Basically You have 4 oranges, and you give away 3. How many oranges do you have?

OpenStudy (ladylauren):

1

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

so 1r + 16 = 16 Subtract 16 on both sides. What do you get? :)

OpenStudy (ladylauren):

I GOT 0

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Bingo! Great work! :D
