OpenStudy (narissa):

How would i solve this?

OpenStudy (narissa):

OpenStudy (photon336):

Do you know what the distributive property is?

OpenStudy (photon336):

\[4n-9 = 2(5+2n)\]

OpenStudy (narissa):

would 4n-9=2(5+2n) turn into 4n-9=10+4n?

OpenStudy (photon336):

4n-9 = 10+4n yep that's correct. now the next thing you need to do is get all the n's on one side.

OpenStudy (narissa):

to do that i need to cancel them out?

OpenStudy (photon336):

4n-9 = 10+4n -4n -4n you can subtract -4n from both sides.

OpenStudy (photon336):

something interesting happens afterwards

OpenStudy (narissa):

cancel out so the answer would be -9=10

OpenStudy (photon336):

then you add -9 to both sides and you get 0 = 19

OpenStudy (photon336):

what this means is that there is no solution to this equation

OpenStudy (narissa):

okay thank u

OpenStudy (photon336):

0 = 19 ??? that makes no sense.
