OpenStudy (stephy321):

Hi. I need help with the following question. I know that answer choices D and E make the statements true because there is a vertical asymptote and infinite discontinuity at x=1. I'm thinking that C is also correct... Can someone help me? Please and thanks.

OpenStudy (evoker):

You need to post the problem.

OpenStudy (stephy321):

Sorry, I thought I attached. Can you see it now?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Yes you are correct. C,D,E are all true

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

What are your thoughts on A?

OpenStudy (stephy321):

I do not exactly understand what A means

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok one moment

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

A is saying "as x gets bigger and bigger (x = 100, x = 1000, x = 10000, etc) then y is slowly approaching y = 0"

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hopefully that clears things up @stephy321 ?

OpenStudy (stephy321):

Which means A is false bc it isnt approaching zero

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

are you sure? look closely at the curve

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

look at how as you move to the right, the curve is slowly sloping downward. It's slowly getting closer and closer to y = 0. It never actually reaches y = 0 itself.
