Qualitative numbers are like a description.  Say you were looking at a plant.  Things like "Green, tall, large" are qualitative data.  Pretty much anything that doesn't involve measurements/numbers is qualitative.  
Quantitative numbers are like 1,2,3,4,5.  5 inches.
