I think that the answer they want is "a scientific law". If a hypothesis is a similar thing to a "guess" (just a longer posher word), then arguably, most scientific laws are based on hypotheses. (plural). Whether you can ever actually PROVE a hypothesis is, I think, arguable. One example would be in physics - the "Big bang" theory. Since we can't go back in time, it can't actually be proved. But, people do do experiments which they claim link to the theory.
