OpenStudy (ksmd13):

The steps below show the incomplete solution to find the value of x for the equation 5x − 2x − 3 = −2 + 17: Step 1: 5x − 2x − 3 = −2 + 17 Step 2: 5x − 2x − 3 = 15 Step 3: 3x − 3 = 15 Which of these is most likely the next step? 3x = 5 3x = 12 3x = 18 3x = 45

OpenStudy (hxkage):

3x = 18

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Well what do you think it is?

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Ah, sorry for the direct answer. ;-;

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Do you know how I got the answer? @ksmd13

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

@hxkage Hahahaha I was just gonna warn you about that I've gotten suspended for giving out direct answers :o

OpenStudy (ksmd13):

well i do now.. xD I'm not sure how i would figure it out

OpenStudy (vadasmommy):

x=15

OpenStudy (ksmd13):

x = 15 isn't a choice..

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Your trying to get the x by itself

OpenStudy (hxkage):

See, you want all the x terms in the left and numbers in the right. And when you bring a number from left to right or right to left, the sign changes. So when -3 goes to the right, it becomes + 3. Got that, buddy? c:

OpenStudy (vadasmommy):

sorry it would be 3x=18 you add 3 to both sides

OpenStudy (ksmd13):

Oh okay that makes sense ^-^

OpenStudy (hxkage):

Glad to help. xD

OpenStudy (ksmd13):

tysm!

OpenStudy (vadasmommy):

its 3x=18

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

yeah I think they get that xD @vadasmommy

OpenStudy (hxkage):

@mathwizzard3 xDD
