(01.07) Solve y over negative 6 + 5 = 9. (1 point) 24 −24 78 −78

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

http://prntscr.com/cagdpb

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

thats better

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

ok, you can write that out like this: (y/-6) + 5 = 9 :)

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

ok So my first step is subtract 5 from both sides (y/-6) = 4 right?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes:)

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

Ok do I multiply to get y by it's self? o-o

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, exactly:)

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

-6 x -6 is 36 so what do I do?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

It works in a different way. Here: (y/-6) * -6 = 4 * -6 When you multiply y/-6 times -6, the -6s cancel out, and you're left with y

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

oh so after i multiply i have y=4!

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

but then what?

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

wait oh! didn't multiply it by -6

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, remember that:)

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

-6 * 4 = -24! <--- my answer

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, so your answer in the end should be: y = -24

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

Yep!

OpenStudy (impracticaljoker):

I have more question. Should I make another thread?

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, that's best. keeps things easier to see:)
