OpenStudy (dlocke8):

Which statement describes a general property of bases? They taste sour. They turn blue litmus red. They conduct an electric current in a solution. The concentration of H+ is greater than concentration of OH- .

OpenStudy (osprey):

I'd go for electrical conduction. I can't remember which way round the litmus test goes. NaOH is a base/alkali and there's no H+. Acids tend to be sour or bitter - lemon juice. I've never knowingly tasted a base. I don't know whether cow's milk would qualify as a base. An alkali is a base which dissolves in water. http://perendis.webs.com

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

this is a tricky area IMHO osprey to my knowledge, bases include the metal oxides as well as liquid (soluble) alkalis i have no idea what the answer is, but i do wonder if c) can be the right answer as non-alkali bases do not dissolve by definition.
