OpenStudy (dunk789):

true or false

OpenStudy (liziekay):

Do you know the definition of a function?

OpenStudy (liziekay):

A function is a special relationship where each input has a single output.

OpenStudy (liziekay):

Yes. a parabola is a function because when you draw a vertical line on it, it wouldn't pass through 2 points.

OpenStudy (dunk789):

thanks

OpenStudy (dunk789):

is this a function

OpenStudy (liziekay):

Try doing the vertical line test? Would this be considered a function? does it pass the test?

OpenStudy (liziekay):

false. the vertical line test disproves that statement. If an equation is a function, a vertical line should be able to pass through any x value and only intersect the graph of the function once. This is not true for polar functions.
