So I need to write a one page essay but I'm really confused.. can someone explain this to me in simpler terms?? (Essay questions in replies)

OpenStudy (olivia033):

You are the owner of a small business that offers advertising services for your local homebuilding professionals. Originally you were the only employee, working at your desktop at home. Now your business is growing and you need to add more workers. The first assessment of your current situation: one worker, one desktop computer, one modem, one printer/scanner, one phone line (DSL). You also created a draft situation of what technology you will need if you add two more workers (three workers including yourself): three computers, one router, one printer/scanner, one phone line (wireless). Do a one-page benefit analysis study that: Compares the cost of adding two desktops vs. one or two laptops Compares the cost of replacing the modem with a router/modem. Compares the cost of building a WAN vs. a LAN or a VPN Summarizes the total cost of maintaining your home office as the only computing space for your three-worker company. Compare this cost with the option of building a network that includes your home office and two satellite locations. Here are some questions you may want to consider: Do I need a firewall to protect my company's data? Are my two new workers' job responsibilities primarily mobile? Are they going to be doing enough work in the field to justify owning laptops? What software needs to be installed in their computers for network connections (desktop vs. laptop)?

Are u done with this? Do you still need help? If your done, please show me your work (;

OpenStudy (olivia033):

I still need help :(

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

Okay, let me try and figure something out. Well what do you need help with @olivia033??

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

I mean do you want me to try writing that entire essay?

OpenStudy (olivia033):

No, no, no. I'm not really that type of person who takes someone else's work. I think I actually get it all now, and now I'm embarrassed.... I guess earlier I was just too lazy to think? I dunno but I just read it over and it makes sense now... I can copy/paste the essay here when I'm done for you to check my work maybe? I'm sorry for wasting your time! :-/

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

Don't worry, you did not waste my time.

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

And I am glad your not a cheater. (; I would love to see your work! Please show me when your done (; YW

OpenStudy (olivia033):

Okay, thanks! :)

Comparing the cost of adding two desktops verses one or two laptops, I can see that the cost would be pretty high with desktops verses laptops. Desktops have more storage, and can do more things as well, while laptops hold less information and can’t do all the things desktops can. Desktops, in my opinion, are more expensive yet better for working with, while laptops are cheaper, but like I said, aren’t as good for working on. Comparing the cost of replacing the modem with a router/modem, to me seems a bit silly, unless you are getting a better modem or router. I think I would go with keeping the modem, because getting a new one would cost…. A lot of money. Yet if I got a router, I would probably do it. Comparing the cost of building a WAN verses a LAN or VPN, I think that a WAN would be more expensive, since it connects over a long distance. I can see how that would work, but I think a VPN would be nice as well so only employees cn use the network, just not over a long distance. I’m not sure about this one, but I think I would go with a VPN. The total cost of maintaining a home office as the only computing space for a three-worker company would be unknown since not all costs are known… I would think that it would add up to be pretty cheap if there were one or two laptops added, the modem not replaced, and a LAN or VPN built. Compared to building a network that includes the home office and two satellite locations (which would be expensive) I think the home office as the only computing space would be the cheapest way to go. (Thats the end but I think it would be a miracle if I got 40% on this so I need help xD)

OpenStudy (olivia033):

Ugh I hate writing papers.

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

I think its good, except that, nowadays laptops, and desktops are the same(speeds). The only difference being in price, you could get a good desktop for about $1,000, vs a laptop of the same speed would be about $3,000.

OpenStudy (olivia033):

Okay, thank you!!!!

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):

Your welcome!

OpenStudy (olivia033):

I sumbitted it to my teacher, I'll let you know my grade! Fingers crossed!

OpenStudy (olivia033):

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you until now, I so thought I was going to fail, but my teacher told me I did perfectly! I got 100%

OpenStudy (olivia033):

Thanks so much anyway!

NvidiaIntely (nvidiaintely):
