3 important events in British history that limited the power of government
Magna Carta- nobles limited the King's power to tax without their permission. Parliament; developed into a 2 chamber body with working committees to deal with issues along with and part of the Royal government. English civil war: Parliament arrests Charles I, beheads him and rules the country for few years. English Bill of Rights: The nobles arranged to get a new set of monarchs. William and Mary. They signed and agreed to the Bill of Rights that provided for free elections, freedom of speech, Parliament's right to approve taxes, habeas corpus and Magna Carta principles.. British North American colonies: set up local governments, Royal governor had to work with them, Great Britain got used to ignoring them for awhile until they wanted to tax them more. Trade routes between colonies developed, markets other than England developed.
