OpenStudy (liv1234):

Identify the verb phrase in this sentence. Beowulf does not fight Grendel with a sword. A. does not B. does not fight C. does fight @sleepyjess

Awolflover1 (awolflover1):

you know what is a verb phrase right?

OpenStudy (liv1234):

Yes, its a main verb plus one or more helping verbs

Awolflover1 (awolflover1):

Yep :) Now What do you think?

OpenStudy (liv1234):

Would it be B? Because the word "does" and "not" are helping verbs and "fight" is a main verb?

OpenStudy (liv1234):

Actually, it looks like C would be the better option because of the helping verb next to the main verb, but in the sentence they aren't next to each other like that.

Awolflover1 (awolflover1):

C is Correct!

Awolflover1 (awolflover1):

and yes that is correct

OpenStudy (liv1234):

But I thought the words had to be next to each other and not switched around like that.

OpenStudy (liv1234):

I think that's where I got confused!

OpenStudy (liv1234):

Thank you!

Awolflover1 (awolflover1):

Yeah lol You're Welcome!
