OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

is y=x+1 a function

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Firstly you must know what a function is to answer that question. Do you know what a function is?

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

Yes

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

I just know how to figure out the equation

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

What's the definition of a function then?

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

An equation or expression that involves one or more variables

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Then according to your definition, is y=x+1 a function?

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

Yes

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

But i want to know how to work out the equation for future problems

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

like for x=2y^2 .. i would assume its a function but how do i work it out so i know for sure

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

hmmm according to your definition, if it's an equation or an expression, then you know it's a function.

OpenStudy (bobo-i-bo):

Therefore, as long as you know the what an equation and what a expression is, you should be able to work out whether it's a function?

OpenStudy (kaliyah0524):

But most of the problems have more than one variable but i know that all the answers arent all function..

OpenStudy (triciaal):

A function is a relation between 2 variables usually (x, y) such that for any value of x (input) there is only one value for y (output) given an equation with both variables rewrite to put in the form y = (whatever) the domain is the set of x values that is used . For each x-value find the corresponding y-value. The range is the set of y-values from lowest to highest.
