the reason why was they placed general Patton's army in northern England was becuase after the African campaign patton beat the german top general Rommel and mid way threw the italian campaign Pattons Forces were stomping the germans until Patton made the mistake of slapping his own troops so in conclusion they put the fake army there for deception becuase its the closest part to europe the germans moved most of their hardcore units to where the thought they were gonna attack so it made the d-day invasion ten times easier and in other words the allies knew the Nazis were scared of patton and used it to their advantage :)
