Use trigonometry
Apply this to the larger triangle and to the smaller .
You will use opposite side / adjacent ( tangent)
Form 2 equations in 2 variables and solve them.

Solve for X and Y X is the height of the flagpole.
OpenStudy (welshfella):
so we can write
tan 28 = X / (20 + Y)
tan 53 = X / Y

thank you so much @welshfella

OpenStudy (welshfella):
solve by substitution
from second equation
Y = X / tan 53
now plug this into the first one
tan 28 = X / (20 + X/tan53))
tan28 = X / (20tan53 + X) / tan53 = X tan53 / ( 20tan53 + X)
20 tan28 tan53 + tan28 * X = X tan53
X tan53 - X tan 28 - 20 tan 28 tan 53
X = 20 tan 28 tan 53
--------------
tan 53 - tan 28
