Alright, type in your question:)

Select all answers that have a value of 32 A: 3x when x = 12 B: x + 8y when x = 8 and y = 3 C: 2x + 11y when x = 4 and y = 2 D: 4(y+1) when y = 7

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Alright, lets try A. Since x = 12, we replace the x in 3x for 12. So that would make 3 * 12 What does that equal?

i dont know my 12 yet... 1 sec to get my calculator.

OpenStudy (kg1975):

3*12=36 so not A

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, so let's try the next one. x + 8y when x = 8 and y = 3 So since x = 8 we replace that in the equation: 8 + 8y Since y = 3, we replace that in the equation too: 8 + 8 * 3 So the new equation is 8 + 8 * 3 You have to remember the order of operations for to solve this one.

48 so nope it has to be the last 2 then because its multiple choice!

ik..

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Actually, you made a mistake while solving that. To solve 8 + 8 * 3, you have to multiply first. So start with 8 * 3, and then add.

OpenStudy (kg1975):

ohh so yea thats 1 then

OpenStudy (kg1975):

it = 32

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Yes, correct!

OpenStudy (quickstudent):

Now let's check the other two since the question says to select all that apply. 2x + 11y when x = 4 and y = 2 So let's replace the x and y with their values. 2 * 4 + 11 * 2 Now remember to multiply first, and then add.
