Can somebody help me figure out which answer I should pick? The picture will be in the comments. It's for Edgar Allen Poe's "The Black Cat".
What do you think it is?
Well, the first answer stood out to me, since the excerpt is explaining in first-person view what actions he is taking against his cat.
I know for sure that the second answer is not it.
well do you think that it tells you about his emotions?
Well, he is explaining how he "blushes", "burns", and "shudders", but I do know that that the narrator is unreliable.
So although some type of emotion is being expressed, I don't know whether him being unreliable is a factor towards "not showing emotion". I'm just a tiny bit confused with that.
well it seems to me that he is showing emotion by saying he grasped the "poor" beast.so we know he feels sorry for his cat so I don't think its A
So it's C, then? Since the last answer does not make any sense, either, since we learn nothing about his motives on harming the poor cat.
Throughout the story, yes, but not simply in this excerpt.
That's what I would put. because A and C seem like reasonable answers but A says we don't learn about his emotions but we do
I was just "iffy" on choosing C, since I know he's an unreliable, insane man. So although he might express his emotions, what he's saying and what he actually felt in that moment could be two different things. So he could or could have not expressed a "deep shame" when harming the cat.
Especially when this is for a test, I want to be 100% correct!!
Well I don't want you to do bad on your test. but I really do think it's C you don't have to put it if you don't think so.
Nothing else really makes sense, though. I think maybe that was obvious the entire time and I overlooked it.
Well it's hard when both A and C look like a good answer
C was correct!! I got 60%, nonetheless, since I got two questions out of five wrong.
well at least you know the answer is now. Can you retake the test?
I can retake the test once my teacher resets it for me, and most likely it will have different questions.
Thank you so much for your help, though!!
