Help pls What is the number in scientific notation? 0.000013

OpenStudy (shaima):

what grade are u in?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

8th

OpenStudy (shaima):

k ill help

OpenStudy (shaima):

wait u mean how to u write a number in scientific notation

OpenStudy (nick63689):

no, im just confused on the question, i got it on my quiz today and i know nothing about scientific notations xD

OpenStudy (shaima):

lmao im a 7th grader and im trying to help even tho i know nothing bout this yet.

OpenStudy (nick63689):

gg

OpenStudy (shaima):

dont worry! we'll figure this out (:

OpenStudy (nick63689):

u sure? i got a question like this: What is 3,920,000,000,000 in scientific notation?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

lol

OpenStudy (shaima):

o-o damn

OpenStudy (shaima):

ur in a online school ?? or not?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

yep.

OpenStudy (lime):

\(\ 1.3×10^{-5}\)= \(\ 0.000013\)

OpenStudy (shaima):

ermmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i wouldnt have got that anyways lmao

OpenStudy (nick63689):

legit have no knowledge of scientific notations

OpenStudy (nick63689):

might fail this test lol

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Let's begin with a definition :-)

OpenStudy (shaima):

lmao im gonna be fr next year is gonna be hard af

OpenStudy (nick63689):

i believe it eases up a little in junior, probably depends where you are

OpenStudy (nick63689):

*freshman

OpenStudy (shaima):

im dumb im only 12 lmao

OpenStudy (nick63689):

do u know ur times tables?

OpenStudy (shaima):

yea who doesnt

OpenStudy (nick63689):

then ur not dumb xd, i've met 12 year olds who forget what 7 x 8 is

OpenStudy (shaima):

lmao its 56

OpenStudy (shaima):

i have a quiz and i dont even know anything on it.. lmao so i got on here

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

A positive number in "scientific notation" is expressed as the product of a number greater than or equal to 1 but less than 10 and an integral power of 10.

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

You still need help?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

i might, just looking at my answers i've made so far

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

what you got so far?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

ill tell you the question and the answers i got 1 sec

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

ok

OpenStudy (nick63689):

ok, here they are

OpenStudy (nick63689):

What is 3,920,000,000,000 in scientific notation?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

my answer was 3.92×10^12

OpenStudy (nick63689):

What is 8.49×10−7 in decimal form?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

0.000000849

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You got it

OpenStudy (nick63689):

and this one, 4.9×10^8

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

You got it

OpenStudy (nick63689):

which i think is 4,900,000, but im not sure.

OpenStudy (nick63689):

these 2 im having problems with What is the number in scientific notation? 0.000013

OpenStudy (nick63689):

and What is the standard form of the number shown in this calculator display? 3.82e+7

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

look at it again its 490,000,000,

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

^

OpenStudy (nick63689):

OH.

OpenStudy (nick63689):

saved me from a bullet, ty

OpenStudy (nick63689):

what about the last one?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

i dont have anything for it, i've been trying to figure it out for 5 mins and i have a whole sheet of paper of random math calculations.

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Yeah and for 0.000013 you got over 5 so your exponent 5 put its negetive because the zeros are in frount of the numbers 1-10 so they we always be neg if they in frount but your answer would be 1.3*10^-5

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

I hope i helpped you understand how to get it if i didn't lemme know

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

3.82e+7 means $$\huge 3.82 \times 10^7$$

OpenStudy (nick63689):

with the im having a problem typing it into the computer, the answer

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Yeah my bad i aint see that question.

OpenStudy (nick63689):

like im not completely sure if it'll understand what i mean by 1.3*10^-5

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

what part confusing you?

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

oh nvm

OpenStudy (nick63689):

last time i tried to put in an answer like that, i was CORRECT but the quiz didn't apparently 'read it correctly' with the special symbols and stuff.

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

You w/ k12?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

yea

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Me too

OpenStudy (nick63689):

its happend twice now with their quizzes, and i've called about it

OpenStudy (nick63689):

but they cant do anything about it apparently.

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Click the answer box and a calculator thingy should come up

OpenStudy (nick63689):

oo i see.

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

then when you trying to put you exponent part click the button that as a xand a box for a exponent

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

You see it?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

so 1.3*10^-5 should work? i dont get what the "*" means

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

no, i wish could show you hold up a min

OpenStudy (nick63689):

fanned you both, ty for the help c:

OpenStudy (nick63689):

still working on that last question

OpenStudy (nick63689):

yea

OpenStudy (nick63689):

like squaring it?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yep, ^ means exponent

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

* means times

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

It look something like that on the calculator on k12 but its a empty box for the Y

OpenStudy (nick63689):

OOOOOOOOOOOH.

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Yeah @Skullpatrol

OpenStudy (nick63689):

so 1.3 times 10^-5?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

that seems to work

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Are you taking your test now?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

yea, im about to submit it

OpenStudy (nick63689):

im pretty confident on the answers

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

$$\huge * = \times = •$$

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

alr yeah

OpenStudy (nick63689):

ight, im gonna submit this

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Did you type everything in right?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

85% woohoo

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Congratzzz

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Good job :D

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Who you take for math?

OpenStudy (nick63689):

the last one gave me 38200000, words cannot express how much gratituide i have for you guys rn

OpenStudy (nick63689):

YESS, BROUGHT THAT UP TO AN A.

OpenStudy (nick63689):

how 2 give medal xD

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Do you take Mrs.Abdullah? (for math?)

OpenStudy (kweenlexis):

Do anyone of yall know 8th grade science? I need help w/ my test!!!
