Greenland is a big island. The continent of Africa is much larger than Greenland. But on some maps Greenland and Africa appear to be almost the same size. Why? A. The map looks better this way. B. The map distorts the true size of the landmasses. C. Greenland has recently grown larger.

B. Since no map is perfectly made, most maps distort or change the earth somehow. Just because Greenland seems bigger in the map doesn't mean it is that is the actually size, it was just the result of making something 3D to 2D. Have a look between the Mercator and the Peters projection to get a more accurate representation of country sizes.
