How can absolute value help you understand the size of a quantity?

OpenStudy (niksbhalla14mar):

please explain your question.

OpenStudy (niksbhalla14mar):

All values can be denoted in the number line. Number line has 0 at it's center... so all absolute values are nothing but the distance from 0. So we can get to know the size of a quantity by the distance from 0.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

the difference between 3 and 7 is 4, if you do 7-3 you get 4, but if you do 3-7 you get -4 and that makes no sense when talking about difference.
