Can someone help me with a word problem please?
I was thinking I would divide 479 by either 2 or 4... because with area I know you multiply length times the height...Im very lost
if it's sqaure, width and legnth are the same
I'm trying to find what those are though
What is the formula for area of a sqaure?
I'm not sure
legnth * width = units^2
I see, but how do I figure out what those are?
if a*b = c, then c/a = b, or c/b=a
or, since they are the same: sqaure root(c) = a = b
5*5=25 sqrt(25) = 5 25/5 = 5
a 5 x 5 foot square has a 25 ft^2 area
ft^2 doesn't mean (25^2) ft. The units are squared
Can you answer the quetion now?
Not exactly.. the example you gave me you had told me what the length was, but in the question they dont already give that to you
If the area is a sqaure, you can find legnth and width uising the equation for area

To find area, you need legnth and width. In a square, they are the same, so you can find them with just area itself. In a rectangle, length and width are not the same, so you cannot find length with only area.
Do you understand that?
yes
