OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Evaluate |-5| A. 5 B. -5 I think A?

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Just making sure I got it right and understand how this works

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

@Awolflover1

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

yes, that's right. When in absolute value, you remove the abstracts and negatives.

OpenStudy (will.h):

A is correct

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Okay...one more... Evaluate 4|-2| - |-3| A. 5 B. -5 C. 11 C? @YanaSidlinskiy

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

How did you get that. That's not what I got..

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

I thought -2 = 2 so 4 x 2 +3 (two negatives make a positive?) = 11?

OpenStudy (will.h):

5 would be the correct answer

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Nope. 4-2 is positive 2. adding 3 to the problem, in negative rules, you change the sign of the WHOLE problem and change the last number sign to the opposite of what is.

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

So like this: |dw:1473349455561:dw|
