True, definitely true. If you think of George Orwell's novel Animal Farm, there was a heavy influence from Anti-Communism which was common during the time. There are many times a historical link within literature. Another example is Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5 which is heavily based off his experiences in during the Dresden bombing, although there is a heavy amount of fiction as well.
