Plz help!! Will give medal!! :D d. If 200 students took this exam approximately how many would have a z-score below 2?

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

this is the graph

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

@twwc960

OpenStudy (adamaero):

What is the z-score formula?

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

that is the z score formula :)

@jim_thompson5910

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

does your teacher want you to use a table? or can you use a calculator?

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

a calculator is fine :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what kind of calculator do you have?

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

scientific calculator on my computer :)

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

*I

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok we'll use wolfram alpha for this problem

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's asking `how many would have a z-score below 2?` first we need to find the proportion of students below z = 2 this is equivalent to finding the probability of getting a z score less than 2, ie P(Z < 2)

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

oh ok

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If you typed `P(Z < 2)` into wolfram alpha, you would get http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=P(Z+%3C+2) what is the decimal result is shows?

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

wait a sec its taking a bit to load :)

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

0.97725? :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes, so we'll multiply that with the 200 people to get 0.97725*200 = 195.45 so about 195.45 people of course, we can't have 0.45 of a person so we round to the nearest whole number to get about 195 people

OpenStudy (narusamisty):

ah ok :)
