Well lets start by reading the paragraph we see that he currently has `28lbs of soil` now that soil is `4lbs more than twice the amount last week` this would indicate an equation coming along...Now we wnt to know what the amount was of last week so that would be the answer to the first point....The unknown information is how many lbs he purchased last week since that is what we want to know....

So we would represent the soil last week as `p`.... so lets write out the equation we are given....we would need to work backwards in order to find p...so we know that p is `4 lbs less` since the lbs this week is 4 more....
