Help please... It takes the earth 24 hour to complete a full rotation. it takes mercury approximately 58 days,15 hours, and 30 min to complete a full rotation. How many hours does it take mercury to complete a full rotation?

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

First, how many hours are in a day?

OpenStudy (kathy_morales13):

60

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

No, there's only 24 hours in a day.

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

So you need to multiply 24 by 58.

OpenStudy (kathy_morales13):

sorry yes there's 24 hrs in a day :)

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

The result of 24 hours x 58 days=1392 hours Do you see where I got the 58 days from?

OpenStudy (kathy_morales13):

yes from the 50 days 15 hrs and 30 min right ?

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

Correct! Now you need to add the extra 15 hours and 30 minutes that is left in the rotation of mercury.

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

So you add 1392 + 15 hours which equals 1407 hours.

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

Now all that you have left is the 30 minutes so you just add that to your total. Thirty minutes is equal to half an hour so your answer should be 1407.5 hours.

OpenStudy (kathy_morales13):

is the whole answer 84,450 ?

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

No

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

The answer is 1407.5 hours

OpenStudy (kathy_morales13):

okay then

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

Is that one of your choices?

OpenStudy (kathy_morales13):

yes thank you :)

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

Can you medal me please? :) It was no problem helping out
