Ethlers-Danlos syndrome is a rare hereditary disorder of connective tissue that results in unusually flexible joints, very elastic skin, and so on. One in five thousand people have this disorder. The cause of this disorder is mutations in genes that affects collagen. Collagen is the protein that is in connective tissue. There are several genes that can change and it disrupts the production of collagen. This disruption causes connective tissues in the bones, skin, and other parts of the body to weaken. There are six major types and at least five minor types of Ethlers-Danlos. The skeletal one affects the bones specifically the joints. There are several symptoms to this disorder. A few of the symptoms are joint dislocation, back pain, double-jointedness, and joints popping. Also, teeth formation may be delayed or all permanent teeth may never appear. Ethlers-Danlos is diagnosed during early adulthood. It is diagnosed in three ways. These ways are by a doctor’s evaluation, genetic testing, or a skin biopsy. Even though it is diagnosed later in life, you are born with the gene and have symptoms through childhood. Ethlers-Danlos has no cure but through treatment it can be minimized. Some treatments include physical therapy and medicines to reduce joint pain. This disorder cannot be prevented because it is a gene mutation. It can be reduced. People with this syndrome should avoid excessive heavy lifting, hypertension of the joints, and stress. Children should be reevaluated every 1-2 years and adults every 3-5 years. This is to make sure nothing extreme is going on. Finally, the outlook on lifespan for those with this syndrome is normal.

OpenStudy (kaylak12345):

it is a formal paper though lol

OpenStudy (stellabella146):

or like "There are several dreadful terribly uncomfortable symptoms to this rare horrible disorder"

OpenStudy (stellabella146):
