OpenStudy (senioryear98):

Precalculus help needed! The function f(x)=(x+8)^2-1 is not one-to-one. Identify a restricted domain that makes the function one to one, and find the inverse function.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Find the axis of symmetry (which is the x coordinate of the vertex). You can use that to restrict the domain.

OpenStudy (senioryear98):

Could you explain? (Sorry my brain is exhausted from work)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

A function like\[\large f(x)=(x-h)^2+k\]has a vertex (h, k). You could restrict its domain to x>h or x<h, either would work.
