Which words from the paragraph help the reader understand the meaning of the underlined word?

When I let my dog loose, he chased our cat through the living room and into the kitchen. The tumult was ear-splitting when the cat suddenly jumped on the cabinet and knocked off a basket of silverware. We couldn't believe my dad snored through all the craziness and confusion.

WolfLover had it right, the words that would describe 'tumult' in this sentence would be such as "cat suddenly jumped on the cabinet and knocked over a basket of silverware." This would obviously make a considerable noise and commotion, so that would make sense as out defining phrase.
