We know why Silas left Lantern Yard when he was younger, but we're left to assume much between the time he left and the current setting of our story. Why, in your opinion, do we find Silas, who isn't even 40 years old, all bent over and old looking? Why is he a lonely miser who only weaves and hoards? Why?

The condition Silas was portrayed in was a result of his seclusion from the society, his unwillingness to live for someone or something, his defiance to trust anyone and his continuous involvement in his work for most part of the day without any leisure time and despite fatigue with the only segment of his day with happiness being at the night when he counted his coins
