18 is a History question. I'll give it a shot. 
One reason for studying the history of any subject is understanding origins. If you look at how thinks were done in earlier times, you can understand what obstacles were overcome, and see why things are done in a certain way. 
Sometimes we look at issues and think it should be totally changed around. By looking at history, we can see if somebody has already tried the changes we want to make.
