OpenStudy (the.lit.owl_23):

please help me, or telll me the answer :-) Evaluate the following: −3 − (−8). A. 5 B. −5 C. −11 D. −18

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (the.lit.owl_23):

c.

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

I would agree with that answer. :)

OpenStudy (the.lit.owl_23):

really?

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Wait.

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Got it turned around, actually it is 5. The two - signs ( -(-8) ) cancel each other out, so the equation looks like... -3 + 8 (two negatives make a positive)

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

And if you add those together it equal 5. Because 8 - 3 is 5.

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Sorry for confusing you

OpenStudy (the.lit.owl_23):

it's ok thabk you for explaining how you got it :-)

OpenStudy (the.lit.owl_23):
