OpenStudy (scribblepikachu):

Ms. Donahue uses 4 essays as the basis for her grading. Each essay counts as a percent of the final average. Essay 1 10% Essay 2 15% Essay 3 25% Essay 4 50% Joel had the following scores for his work: Essay 1, 85; Essay 2, 90; Essay 3, 80; and, Essay 4, 100.

OpenStudy (scribblepikachu):

What is Joel's expected final average? A) 86 B) 89 C) 90 D) 92

OpenStudy (phi):

I would change all the percents to decimals e.g. 10% becomes 0.10 then multiply each grade by its corresponding decimal. example 0.10*85 add up all 4 results. what do you get ?

OpenStudy (scribblepikachu):

E1. 8.5 E2. 13.5 E3.20 E4.50

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, now add them up, that is the "weighted average" (notice if all 4 used 25% we would get the usual average)

OpenStudy (ebayminer126):

Correct

OpenStudy (scribblepikachu):

92 is what i got when i add them all up

OpenStudy (phi):

sounds good.

OpenStudy (scribblepikachu):

OpenStudy (phi):

yes
