OpenStudy (banjoman):

how do you convert an improper fraction?

OpenStudy (benji):

Well, an improper fraction is one where the numerator is greater than the denominator, for example \[\frac{ 10 }{ 5 }\] or \[\frac{ 3 }{ 2 }\]

OpenStudy (benji):

So first, we have to think how many times the bottom number (denominator) can fit into the top number (numerator), so how many times does 5 go into 10? And 2 into 3?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

convert 3/2 to a mixed number Divide 3 by 2:- this gives 1 with remainder 1. so 3/2 = 1 1/2

OpenStudy (anglina4196):

Just divide it for example 3/2 is 1 and a remainder of 1 so just add the denominator of 2

OpenStudy (anglina4196):

so the answer is 1 & 1/2

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yyes

OpenStudy (welshfella):

11/4 divide 11 by 4:- 2 remainder 3 11/4 = 2 3/4

OpenStudy (welshfella):
