OpenStudy (dr-wells):

It's not C, i've tried that.

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

@phi @zepdrix @nnesha @mathmale @whpalmer4

OpenStudy (phi):

did you figure out what f(3) and g(3) is ?

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

Nope, i have no ide how to do this.

OpenStudy (phi):

f(x) = 3^x f(3) means "replace the x with 3" can you do that ? what expression do you get ?

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

f(3)=3^x??

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

Sorry, i'm really bad at this e.e

OpenStudy (phi):

I still see an x in your answer. replace it with 3 try again

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

f(3)=3^3???

OpenStudy (phi):

exactly now we do arithmetic any idea what \( 3^3\) is ?

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

27 right?

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

I know it's not C, i have tried that and it was wrong e.e

OpenStudy (phi):

yes 3*3*3= 27 so f(3) is 27 now we need to figure out g(3) same idea: g(x)= 7x+6 which means 7*x + 6 (we usually leave out the multiply sign, but when we "plop in" a number, we better put the multiply sign in) now write down g(3): replace the x with 3 what do you get ?

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

g(3)=7 3+6

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

I don't know if that's right.

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, but put in the * (for multiply) otherwise it looks like 73 instead of 7*3 g(3)= 7*3 + 6 now simplify to get 21+6 or 27

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

ok.. sooooo

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

I don't know how to approach this.

OpenStudy (phi):

so it looks like they both have the same value. But I bet f(4) will be much bigger than g(4) because 3*3*3*3 is 3*27 = 81 and g(4) is 7*4+6

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

Ok, so Month 4?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

ok, thanks :)

OpenStudy (dr-wells):

It was right :D
