What is the difference between an objective plot summary and a theme-based summary? One retells the story from the perspective of the narrator while the other describes events as a reader who is not involved in the story. One arranges plot events in chronological order while the other describes them in reverse. One focuses only on the story’s plot while the other explains what the story reveals or suggests about life. One includes the reader’s opinions about how interesting the story is while the other merely lists plot events.

An objective plot summary doesn't focus on a certain point of view on the story. This means that if you were to write an objective plot summary, you'd only focus on the events and facts of the story. A themed-base summary will be focusing more on the theme of the story, hence the name! The theme of the story is a hidden message provided by the author, the hidden meaning
