OpenStudy (black_rose):

Which factors led to the Russian Revolution of 1917? What was the effect of WW1 on Russia?

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Russia was barely a modern country at the beginning of the 20th century. They had just outlawed serfdom, there was little industry and government was full of bureaucracy and corruption. When WWI started, Russia came in as a ally of England and France. But war exposed all the problems the nation had and stressed the system to a breaking point. Russian troops were ill prepared, poorly equipped and unable to do anything significant. It was the perfect time for revolutionaries to point out all the problems and convince people it was time for something new.
