Kimberly is playing "Guess My Number." Her clue is, "When i triple my number and subtract 7, 1 get 83." What is my number?

Use a variable, such as x, to represent the number. Then do to x what they said was done to the number: multiply x by 3 and subtract 7. Then set that equal to 83. Now you have an equation. Solve for x to find the number.
