Did the Fourth of July holiday in the nine century serve any political or cultural functions that it no longer serves today? The Fourth of July did not change by celebrating what we do. It changed maybe with fireworks, cook outs, what you do every year. It serves the same meaning it did in the 9th century. I don't know because I didn't read your passage about the last one.
