What would you say were some of the techniques of persuasion during the presidential debate between Clinton and Trump?

In this campaign they are abusing the emotional content and facial expression.

This means two things:

First. They believe a majority of the electorate as sheep or people with low intelligence.

Second. The actual content hardly differs except in specific cases. Two policies too similar to a standardized to the maximum country.

It pales Americans to vote. Both politicians crave only come to power and exercise it. Nothing else. They do not think anyone else.

It is sad that techniques of persuasion and Paul J. Goebbels used in ancient times to get the same thing apply.
