In paragraphs 3 and 4, why does the author devote only a single sentence between Great-Aunt Gertrude’s final words and the moment that the family arrives at the house? By omitting the funeral and picking up the pace, the author reveals that the narrator was close to her aunt and couldn’t bear to go into detail about her death. By deliberately increasing the pace, the author is able to describe the scene more clearly and with great details. By jumping quickly from one scene to the next, the author indicates how unimportant Great-Aunt Gertrude’s life was to the narrator.
