Franco means France. Prussian means Prussia. 1870. Prussia dominated the German states militarily and lead a confederation or northern German states. Germany had not quite unified as a nation. Bit France wasn't liking the idea of a strong Germany next door. France got beat pretty badly. The French Second Empire government fell apart. The treaty that ended the war also recognized the German Empire. So what the French tried to prevent ended up being what was created by their actions.
