-x^4+5x^3+7x^2-16 find degree and coefficient

OpenStudy (mhchen):

The degree is the highest value of the powers. I assume you mean 'leading' coefficient for the 2nd part? Leading coefficient is the coefficient for the term with the highest degree. Which in this case is -x^4 (since 4 is the highest degree). The coefficient of it is the number that it multiplies by. Basically, what multiplies by x^4 = -x^4? That will be your leading coefficient. And which term has the highest degree value? That will be the degree of the polynomial.

OpenStudy (emmynimmy):

okay so what is the answers i need it asap

OpenStudy (emmynimmy):

degree is 4

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Yes, the degree is 4. Now what times x^4 is -x^4? I can't directly say the answer or I'll get a warning from the mods btw :P

OpenStudy (emmynimmy):

-1?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Yep
