Horatio Lloyd Gates (July 26, 1727 – April 10, 1806) was a retired British soldier who served as Gates served under Cornwallis when the latter was governor of Nova Scotia, and also By June 1776, he had been promoted to Major General and given command of the Canadian Department to replace John Sullivan.
