Stars can end in different fates....Our star for fact when toward its end will end NOT explode as a supernova but as a planetary nebula dispersing its materials in space....Stars about 1.5 times greater can explode into a supernova and or black hole....This happens if the collapse of the star continues to shrink and creates a singularity in which become a black hole... Space nerd :P

One such example would be the star Betelgeuse which will end its life in a big explosion.
