What is the cell membrane made of? How does this help during active and passive transport?

Passive transport means the transport of vesicles or other bodies in or out of the cell membrane without requiring extra energy, like our walking.
Active transport requires energy (per trip), namely ATP will be used, similar to an escalator or an elevator.
