What is the cell membrane made of? How does this help during active and passive transport?

It is a long story, and would make up almost a whole lecture period. A textbook will give you the whole story in detail, but in case you're not already familiar with the concept or the terms, the following link gives a good head-start before digging into a textbook. http://www.biology4kids.com/files/cell_membrane.html Passive transport means the transport of vesicles or other bodies in or out of the cell membrane without requiring extra energy, like our walking. Active transport requires energy (per trip), namely ATP will be used, similar to an escalator or an elevator.
