A long distance runner starts at the beginning of a trail and runs at a rate of 4 miles per hour. One hour later, a cyclist starts at the beginning of the trail and travels at a rate of 20 miles per hour. What is the amount of time that the cyclist travels before overtaking the runner? Do not do any rounding.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Okay, the runner runs for H hours. How far does the runner get? Use multiplication to calculate the answer. This is just like calculating the distance traveled by a car going a certain speed for a given length of time, such as 40 mph * 2 hrs = 80 miles.
