Can someone help me?? I'm really confused. I need to make an equation out of this word problem: 2. Tammy is training for a marathon. She ran 3 miles from home to the lake, twice around the lake and then home again. She ran 11 miles. How far is it around the lake? I know how to get the answer which I think is 2.5 miles long one lap around but I dont know how to make an equation out of it.

Please help

OpenStudy (eswart1):

\[3(2)+x(2)\] Gives you 3 miles times 2 trips (there and back) + the unknown distance around the lake times two. Or you can plug in the distance you solved for which is correct.
