OpenStudy (t-dawg02):

If the car gets 27 miles with one gallon, the first thing you have to do to solve this problem is to divide the total amount of miles the car is going to drive (2727) by the average miles per one gallon (27). So 2727 / 27 = 101. That means that the car is going to need 101 gallons to drive that many miles. You're looking for the cost of the trip, though, not the miles, so you have to multiply the miles (101) by the cost of each gallon ($4.04). 101 * $4.04 gives you $408.04.
