Check my work.
What is the simplified form of this expression, written in scientific notation? (3.276×10&5)×400,000÷(3.9×10&6) Enter your answer in the box.
My answer is 1.3104 x 10^9
I have no idea if that is correct or not.
Please use ' ^ ' to denote exponentiation, not ' & .' I'd like to see HOW you got your answer before commenting on your correctness.
Oops, I pressed the wrong key, I ment ^
Show me the steps you went thru to obtain your final answer.
3.276(105)(400); 0/3.9(106) = 131040000
I converted 131040000 into a scientific notation.
And then I got 1.3104 x 10^9
I propose you do the problem this way: separate the numerical values from the powers of 10. (3.276×10^5)×400,000÷(3.9×10^6) would translate to (3.276)(400000) (10^5) ---------------------- (3.9) (10^6) and the 400000 could be re-written as 4*10^5. Evaluate (3.276) (4) --------- * (10^5) (10^5) 3.9 ------------ 10^6
Check your first answer against your result for the above.
I found the answer
2.8 x 10^5
Am I correct?
@mathmale
Your 2nd answer is quite different from your first. Have you tried to figure out why that is so?
Yes sir I did.
Or ma'am
or sir
Because your name is math"male"
So I would guess Sir.
(3.276) (4) --------- = ?? You answered "2.8." Could you defend that answer? Mine differs. 3.9
(3.276) (4) --------- = ?? You answered "2.8." Could you defend that answer? 3.9 differs from yours.
But thankyou
I will tell you how I got my answer later.
Sorry I wasn't faster. Didn't realize you were out of time.
I am running out of time.
Woah, did I already type that, my bad.
